MORRIS MUSEUM of ART in AUGUSTA GEORGIA

           I travelled to Augusta to visit my relatives after living three months in Atlanta. Since then; Downtown Morris Museum of Art was the most impressive museum for me.

            The museum was founded in 1985 and it was dedicated to art and artist of the American South. There are nearly five thousand works of art from all ages of American art, including oil and watercolor paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptures.

            The principal works in the museum belong to eighteenth century of Southern America’s impressionis. In addition, there are variety of public programs, including lectures, readings and concerts.

            After that beautiful experience, a visit to the museum gift shop is a must. You can try the Morris’s own books, catalogs, posters, note cards, post cards, t-shirts, scarves, decorative items and much more.

            If you visit Augusta; you should have the museum on your list of places to see.

Atlanta’da gecirdigim uc aylik donemin sonunda, ailemin yanina Augusta’ya geldim. Burada kaldigim surede beni en cok etkileyen muze, sehrin merkezinde yer alan The Morris Museum of Art oldu.

1985 yilinda kurulan muze, sanata ve Amerika'nin guneyindeki sanatcilara armagan edilmis. Muzede bircok doneme ait yaklasik bes bin parca eser gormeniz mumkun. Buna yagliboya, suluboya, cizimler, fotograflar ve heykeller de dahil. 

Muzede gorebileceginiz baslica eserler onsekizinci yuzyil Guney Amerika’nin izlenimci sanatina aittir. Bunun disinda eger isterseniz muzede halka yonelik, konferanslar, okuma gunleri ve konserler gibi cesitli programlara da katilabilirsiniz.

Bu guzel deneyimin ardindan muzeye ait hediyelik esya magazasina ugramanizi tavsiye ederim. Burada muzeye ait kitaplari, katalog, poster, notluk, ve kartpostallari ; bunun disinda t-shirt, fular, dekoratif parcalar ve fazlasini bulabilir ve satin alabilirsiniz. 

Eger yolunuz duserse, Morris’in gorulecek yerler listenizde yer almasini tavsiye ederim.

American Art in High Museum

    

Thanks everyone for following and being interest in my blog. You made me so happy. This month I will share my experience with American art.

     Since I came to Atlanta; The High Museum was the biggest and the most extensive museum, I have ever seen. You can see a lot of pieces about all of the ages of American art in this museum. The sculptures on the ground floor are especially condescent. The human figures in many sculptures of the 18th century draw the attention of observers. In addition to that, you can see Native American sculptures that are part of the exhibition. The aspects of class and regionalism further shaped the growing American art society.

 

My favorite part was the Pop Art section, as usual. Pop Art is an art movement that emerged in the fifties in Britain and the U.S. It emerged in reaction to abstract expressionism.* You can see lots of works about this art movement in this museum.

    The High Museum is too large to see in one day. If you visit it, there should be many pieces that interest you.

     Öncelikle blogumu takip eden ve ilgi gösteren herkese cok tesekkur ederim. Beni çok mutlu ettiniz. Bu ay sizinle Amerikan sanatina dair izlenimlerimi paylasacagim.

     Amerika'ya geldigim andan beri gördügüm en büyük ve en kapsamli müze High Museum oldu. Müze de Amerikan sanatinin her dönemine ait birçok eser bulmak mümkün. Özellikle de serginin giris katinda sizi karsilayan eserler göz kamastirici. Birçok heykelde 18. yy dönemine ait insan figürleri göze çarpiyor. Buna ek olarak serginin bir diger bölümünde Amerikan yerlilerini (kizilderilileri) anlatan heykeller görebilirsiniz. Sinif farkliliklari, bölgesellik gibi faktörler Amerikan sanatini sekillendirip, gelistiren bir etken olmustur.
      Benim favorim her zamanki gibi Pop Art bölümü oldu. Pop Art, 1950'lerde ABD ve Ingiltere'de soyut disavurumculuga* tepki olarak ortaya çikmis bir sanat akimidir.
       High museum tek günde gezilemeyecek kadar büyük, eger yolunuz düserse çok sayida sanat eseri müzede sizi bekliyor olacak.

*Soyut Disavurumculuk (Soyut Ekspresyonizm), 1940'larin ortalarinda New York'ta ortaya çikan, ressamlarin gerçek nesnelerin temsiline yer vermeden, kendilerini sadece renk ve sekillerle ifade ettikleri soyut bir sanattir. (https://www.wikipedia.org/)

A New Beginning "VIOGE"

 

I decided to share my writing on this page after taking a short break.

 

What does it mean, Vioge?

 

I combined two French words, Violet (Purple) &  Rouge (Red). These colors remind me of love and aesthetics. Ylajali is a character in the book (Knut Hamsun-Hunger), for my curious friends. At the same time, Ylajali is a restaurant name in Norway/Oslo. I recommend that you read this book and try this restaurant if you find that you are even more curious.

 

I will share about current exhibitions and write about my take on art galleries I have visited. Also, I will discuss artists on this blog.

Vioge Fransiz iki kelimenin (Violet-Rouge) birlesiminden olusuyor. Turkce anlamlari mor ve kirmizi. Bu iki renk bana ask ve estetigi cagristiriyor. Merak eden arkadaslarim icin Ylajali ise bir kitap karakteri (Knut Hamsun/Aclik), ayni zamanda Norvec/Oslo'da bir lokantanin adi. Daha fazla merak eden arkadaslarim icin kitabi okumalarini ve lokantayi denemelerini tavsiye ederim :)
