Je suis le primitif d’un nouvel art. J’aurai, je le sens,
des continuateurs…
Paul Cézanne;
Déception, défaite, colère, avidité, faiblesse, haine et amour. Je me retrouve dans chaque œuvre, un peintre comme une tempête avec un caractère digne et un prestige tardif.
Cézanne est né à Aix-en-Provence, fils de Louis-Auguste Cézanne, chapelier et d'Anne Elizabeth Honorine Aubert. Il est né hors mariage et légalement reconnu par son père. Il avait une forte personnalité et malgré son apparence brutale était extrêmement intelligent. Il a vécu comme reclus une forme de compromis.
Il a étudié le droit entre 1859 et 1861, puis il est allé voir son ami d'enfance pour apprendre la peinture, Émile Zola, qui était un auteur très respecté dans le futur. Cézanne a également travaillé à l'Académie suisse et au Louvre. Il réalise une concision esthétique qui se retrouve également dans ses natures mortes et établit un lien entre sa peinture, sa technique et son dessin.
Il fréquente régulièrement les musées, reçoit plusieurs leçons et entre dans les cercles de l'avant-garde parisienne à la fin des années 1860.
L'étrangeté qui caractérise le début apparaît avec virulence dans les premiers portraits, que ce soit dans le traitement de la peinture dans toute son épaisseur ou dans la schématisation très efficace des visages.
"Lire le modèle et le concrétiser, peut parfois être un processus très lent pour l'artiste", a déclaré Cézanne à la fin de sa vie.
Cézanne dépeint ses modèles dans un style humble mais monumental, qu'ils soient paysans ou illustres membres des milieux artistiques parisiens.
Les portraits de Cézanne retracent clairement le développement riche et complexe d'un artiste qui fait preuve d'une originalité et d'une indépendance sans précédent dans ses œuvres dès le début, sa relation complexe avec sa femme et son partenaire qui lui ont posé de nombreuses années des paysans âgés de son attachement à un terroir et donc à l'aspect matériel de son wotk à son niveau le plus élémentaire, malgré ses hautes préoccupations intellectuelles.
Ses contemporains n'ont jamais vraiment compris la grandeur de sa vision: l'équilibre élaboré qui régit les compositions de Cézanne prend en compte chaque élément, ne laissant aucune périphérie ou zone secondaire sans surveillance.
"Peut-être que je ne suis que l'artiste primitif d'un nouvel art" a-t-il commenté. Il était aussi un artiste classique parfaitement mature.

Paul Cezanne;
Disappointment, defeat, anger, greed, weakness, hate and
love. I find myself in each work, a painter like a storm with a dignified
character and late coming prestige.
Cezanne is born in Aix-en-Provence, the son of Louis-Auguste
Cezanne, a hatter and Anne Elizabeth Honorine Aubert. He is born out of wedlock
and legally recognised by his father. He had a strong personality and despite
his brutish appearance was extremely intelligent. He lived as a recluse an form
of compromise.
He studied law
between 1859 and 1861 and then he went to his childhood friend to learn
painting , Émile Zola, who was being a highly respected author in the future.
Cezanne also worked at the Swiss Academy and the Louvre. He achieves an aesthetic
concision which is also found in his still lifes and establishes a connection
between his painting, technique and drawing.
He frequented the museums regularly, received several
lessons and entered the circles of the Paris avant-garde in the late 1860s.
The strangeness that characterizes is begining appears
virulently in the first portraits, whether in the treatment of painting in its
entire thickness or in the highly effective schemtization of faces.
"Reading of the model and bringing it to fruition, can
sometimes be a very slow process for the artist" said Cezanne at the end
of his life.
Cezanne depicts his models in a humble yet monumental style,
irrespective of whether they are peasants or illustrious members of Parisian
artistic circles.
Cezanne portraits clearly trace the rich and complex
development of an artist who demonstrates unprecedented originality and
independence in his works from the very outset, his complex relationship with
his wife and partner who posed for him over a period many years and the
projection in his depiction of elderly peasants of his attachment to a terroir
and thus to the material aspect of his wotk at its most elementary level,
despite his lofty intellectual concerns.
His contemporaries never really understood he greatness of
his vision: the elaborate balance ruling Cezanne’s compositions takes each
element into account leaving no peripherl or secondary areas unattended.
“Maybe I am just the primitive artist of a new art” he
commented. He was also a perfectly mature classical artist.

Aubert’in evlilik dışı çocuğu olan Cezanne , Aix-en-Provence ‘de doğdu. Güçlü kişiliği
ve kaba görüntüsüne rağmen son derece zekiydi. Bunu bir uzlaşı yöntemi olarak
benimsediği için toplumdan da uzak yaşardı.
1859-1861 yılları arasında hukuk dersleri almış ardından da
resim sanatını öğrenmek için çocukluk arkadaşı, ileri zamanlarda çok saygın bir
yazar olacak olan arkadaşı Émile Zola'nın yanına gitmiştir. Cezanne İsviçre
Akademisi'nde ve Louvre'da çalışmış, 1860’ların sonlarında ise Paris avangardına
katılmıştır.
Cezanne’ın hayatında hep var olan estetik anlayışı aynı
zamanda onun resim tekniği ve çizimleri arasında bir bağlantı kurmuştur. İlk
portrelerindeki karakterler kullandığı boyanın kalınlığı ile ve ya çizdiği
yüzlerin şematik bir biçim almasıyla şiddetli bir biçimde tuhaf görünür,
Cezanne, modellerini Parisli sanat çevrelerinden, köylüler
ya da ünlü üyelerinden olmasına bakmadan mütevazi fakat görkemli bir tarzda
tasvir eder. Ona göre "Modelin
okunması ve hayata geçirilmesi bazen sanatçı için çok yavaş bir süreç
olabilir" . Cezanne’ın zengin ve karmaşık olan gelişimi eserlerine de eşi benzeri görülmemiş özgünlük ve
bağımsızlık katmaktadır. Uzun yıllar boyunca kendisine poz veren karısı ve partneri
ile karmaşık ilişkisi, ve yaşlı köylülerin tasvirindeki entelektüel endişeleri,
ardından bunu bir teoriye bağlaması, eserlerinin en temel seviyesinde hayatının
projeksiyonu gibi olmasını sağlar.
Çağdaşları onun vizyonunun büyüklüğünü hiçbir zaman anlamazlar.
Cezanne her şeyden farklı olarak ayrıntılı denge kuralı ile kompozisyonlarına
her bir malzemenin içsel ve dışsal alanlarını ve etkilerini göz ardı etmeksizin
yer veren bir sanatçıdır.
O kendini modern sanatın ilkel sanatçısı olarak yorumlar, ancak
Cezanne aynı zamanda mükemmel bir klasik dönem ressamıdır.
